Title: “Discovering My Identity in Christ”

Series: I Am Secure

I have noticed that sometimes people view their relationship with God with a strong sense of insecurity. This is especially true when it comes to the issue of salvation. A commonly held view is that one day you’re in, the next day you’re out, and there is no telling until the day that you die whether you’ll be in heaven or not. It is a common misunderstanding that has led to a tragically warped view of how God operates in relationship to His children. Instead of building trust, it forces us to disbelieve that God is someone that we can count on. The sad thing is that when a person doesn’t know that they are secure in God’s hands they will spend their entire lives trying to please a God they don’t really understand.

Today, as we begin our series, “Discovering My Identity in Christ” it is important that we start by understanding the secure salvation that we have in Jesus.

Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.  As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people, from this time forth and forevermore. – Psalm 125:1-2 (ESV)

This theme runs throughout both the Old and New Testaments – we can trust God to both save us and keep us as His children. One of the most striking passages in the New Testament concerning this truth is this statement from Jesus:

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.  I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.  My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.  I and the Father are one.”John 10:27-30 (ESV)

Let’s take our time together to break this down.
